The functional safety is critical to allow the use of complex technologies, such as programmable electronic systems related to the human and environmental safety. It serves to ensure that the safety systems provide the desired risk reduction, necessary to grant the safety of a plant or of a system.
In other words, we say that a plant, system, machine or equipment are safe when the risks associated with their operations are reasonably acceptable to the human and environmental safety.
