Firma_3 The safety certification of a system or of an equipment is often a hard challenge to win. HINTSW supply its customers with the whole support and know-how necessary to win it successfully.

HINTSW's support starts at the very beginning of the certification procedure when the feasibility evaluation and the budget of the project are determined.

It is important to establish the financial commitment necessary to obtain the certification as early as possible.

HINTSW's support takes care of all phases of the Life Cycle. It starts from the conceiving of the project when safety analyses (PHIA, HA) are done and the characteristics of the system are determined; it goes on and on to the phases of validation, installation and use until it reaches the moment of dismission and dismantling of the system.

In relation to the main steps of a certification procedure HINTSW's offer is the following:

  • Conceiving and Definition: In this phase our offer is mainly addressed to the buyer of the system and particularly to boards, authorities and companies that contract out; we supply these subjects with:
    • Performing the Preliminary Hazard Identification and Analysis (PHIA) in order to determine the SIL to assign to the system.
    • Establishing Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety (RAMS) targets for the system.
    • Undertaking financial analysis & feasibility studies.
    • Identifying operating and maintenance conditions and strategies.
    • Establishing safety policy and Safety Plan.
    • Writing tender specifications.
  • Hazard Analysis: In this and in the following phases our offer is mainly addressed to the contractor and to the subcontractors for whom we can:
    • Perform system hazard & safety risk analysis.
    • Identify the provisions necessary to mitigate the risk.
    • Set-up hazard log.
  • Definition of Requirements: In this phase we can:
    • Specify system requirements.
    • Specify system safety requirements.
    • Apportion system requirements and system safety requirements to sub-systems and components.
    • Establish validation plan.
    • Establish management, quality and organisation requirements.
  • Design and Realization: In this phase we can:
    • Perform planning and selection of development methodologies and techniques; establish the software safety lifecycle (Go into the matter …).
    • Prepare generic safety case.
    • Calculate the system reliability and availability.
    • Perform design & development.
    • Prepare the required documentation.
  • Manufacturing: In this phase we can:
    • Implement RAM and safety plan by review, analysis, testing and data assessment.
    • Prepare documentation.
  • Installation: In this phase we supply consultancy for:
    • Establish the installation program in accordance with safety plan.
  • Validation and Acceptance: In this phase we can:
    • Perform RAM demonstration.
    • Perform the system validation in accordance with the related plan.
    • Prepare application specific safety case.
  • Operation and Maintenance: In this phase we can:
    • Perform on-going safety performance monitoring and hazard log maintenance.
    • Collect, analyse, evaluate, and use performance and safety statistics.
  • Modification and Retrofit: In this phase we supply consultancy for:
    • Consider safety implications for modification and retrofit.
  • Decommissioning and Disposal: In this phase we can:
    • Establish disposal safety plan.
    • Perform disposal hazard analysis and risk assessment.

In case the system to certify contains software performing safety functions, HINTSW can supply a highly specialized support trough the applications of a specific lifecycle (defined as Software Safety Lifecycle) in accordance with the relevant standards, for example: UL 1998, IEC 61508-3, IEC 61511, IEC 50128, IEC 60730-1, etc., and trough the use of methodologies and developing techniques as required by such standards.       [ Go into the matter ... ]
